Environmental Health Association of Ireland Guidance

Open farms offer visitors the opportunity of seeing and coming into contact with animals – a valuable activity that brings many benefits and pleasure to children and adults alike.

Visiting these venues presents a generally low, but possible, risk of visitors acquiring infection from the animals. However, where practices are poor on individual farms, risks may be higher.

Open farms guidance documents are available below as follows:

Open Farms and Pet Farms- Hand Washing Poster

Open Farms and Pet Farms- Public Information Leaflets

Open Farms and Pet Farms- Stay Healthy During Farm Visits

The single most important thing we ask our visitors is

to please wash your hands after touching, feeding or petting the animals.
